A two-team quiz: 6 categories, 36 questions

The two-team board is a game-night classic: an orange team, a blue team, and a board of six categories with six questions each — 36 in all. Hajma builds it entirely around soccer: each team picks three of more than 90 categories on players, clubs, national teams and competitions, the ref reads from a TV or phone, and the match starts in your browser with nothing to download.

How the board works

Each category has two 200-point questions, two 400s and two 600s; higher values mean harder questions and a longer clock. Each team gets one question of each value per category — take a 400 and the other 400 goes to your rivals, so nobody can hoard the easy ones.

Question values in every category
ValueQuestionsDefault clock
200230 seconds
400245 seconds
600260 seconds

In the last 10 seconds the clock turns red and ticks out loud; when time is up the answer shows and the ref rules.

Rules that heat it up

  • The steal: if the team on turn misses, the rivals can answer for all the points.
  • The hat-trick: every third right answer in a row earns 100 bonus points, and breaking a rival streak of three or more earns 100 too.
  • Ties: level on points after all 36 questions, and it ends in a tie.

The five lifelines

Each team picks three of these before kickoff:

  • Double points — Arm it before picking a question and a right answer is worth double.
  • Point drain — Arm it first, and a right answer also costs the rivals the same amount.
  • Snatch — Take the rivals’ question before they answer: right and the points are yours, wrong and they get them.
  • Pass — Hand the question to the rivals to answer instead.
  • Two answers — You get two guesses instead of one.

Example: the first three minutes

  1. The Falcons start, pick a 200 from the Premier League category, get it right: 200 points.
  2. The Tigers pick a 400 from the World Cup and miss; the Falcons steal it for 400 — now 600.
  3. The Falcons arm Double points, pick a 600 from “Who is he?” and nail it: 1200 points instead of 600.
  4. The Tigers use the Snatch on the Falcons’ next question, get it right, break the streak and take the points.
