How to run a great soccer quiz competition

Soccer quiz competitions are a hit at schools, clubs, diwaniyas and Ramadan nights — but most fall flat for two reasons: repeated or wrong questions, and slow organizing that bores the room. This guide walks through running a multi-team competition, using Hajma to run each match with questions, points and a clock.

Pick a format

Every Hajma match is two teams, so the competition is built from head-to-heads. Formats that work, by team count:

Formats by number of teams
TeamsFormatMatches
2One final, or a two-leg tie1–2
4Semifinals, then a final3
8Quarterfinals, semifinals, final7
4One round-robin group: everyone plays everyone once6

In a round-robin, give 3 points for a win and 1 for a tie; break ties on total question points.

Step by step

  1. Set the team count — 3 to 5 players per team keeps everyone involved.
  2. Pick a neutral ref who doesn’t play, and a big screen the audience can see.
  3. In each match, teams take turns picking three categories each — six categories, 36 questions.
  4. Post every result on a visible table — audiences love following the standings.
  5. Save harder categories for the final, or make each team pick one it hasn’t played yet.

Why Hajma suits competitions

  • No repeats: questions already played on the account are skipped, so later rounds stay fresh.
  • A clock on every question by difficulty — no dragging, no arguments over timing.
  • Automatic scoring: the ref taps the team that got it, and points, steals and hat-tricks are counted for you.
  • More than 90 categories: Arab and world clubs and national teams, competitions, legends and pictures.
  • Arabic and English: right for international schools and mixed groups.

Ideas that make it memorable

  • Soccer team names: each team picks a club name or nickname, shown on the match board.
  • A prize for the smartest lifeline: a small trophy for the best-timed Snatch or Double points.
  • A big-screen final in front of everyone, with the ref reading out loud.
  • An audience round: between matches, ask the crowd a question from the library for a small prize.
